In February 1999, we began to renovate the house and we moved-in a year and a half later.

The « chest » is an ancient structure built on a plateau that is 340m of altitude.

Several houses stood together along with barns, sheep pens and a silk farm.

In past times the farms grew wheat, olives and almonds were stored in chests and that is how the place got it’s name.

People on the farms slowly moved to the city, and it was at this time François’ grandfather bought the abandoned land. Some of the houses were abandoned for over 50 years.

In times past the architectural style was built in what we call “Mas-ruche”. This means the construction of the buildings and houses form a circular movement that looks like a big U. This allows us to keep the intimacy for each house guest, as each house has it’s own separate entrance and porch.

Today, the houses are recognized by the City Hall as a rural heritage. The houses are considered of interest for the historical value of Provence.
